Nexia's platform technology was originally developed to produce biopharmaceuticals. The Human Genome Project is expected to generate much additional knowledge in the field of proteins. This should result in an ever increasing need to produce a large variety of recombinant proteins; however, there is a shortage of mammalian cell culture production capacity which can efficiently manufacture recombinant proteins. Using transgenic goats, Nexia produces large volumes of complex recombinant proteins.
